Opinion: Unity and productive work contribute to Belarus' gradual growth

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – Unity and productive work foster the gradual development of Belarus, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) Mikhail Orda noted on 1 May, BelTA has learned.

“For trade unions, 1 May is one of the most important holidays. The main goal of this holiday is to thank people for their honest work and contribution to the country's growth, regardless of their occupation. We are all working for a better life. We want the country to be developing and moving forward. Our common energy, unity, and solidarity aimed at creation and good deeds will help us deal with any problem,” Mikhail Orda said.

The Belarusians have something to be proud of. “Our cities and our country have been made by our people. We sometimes fail to recognize all those good changes that are happening around in our everyday life. However, if we take a look at how we used to live 10 or 20 years ago, we will understand that Belarus becomes even more beautiful and comfortable every year,” the FTUB chairman remarked.

According to the latest data, the major economic indicators showed positive growth. This is due to the effort of the workers, government, employees and trade unions, Mikhail Orda added. At the same time, the FRUB is busy solving problems that still persist today. For instance, the federation urges to strengthen the protection of employees. The most important thing is to appreciate the good things that we have: peace, stability, and the opportunity to work productively every day to achieve even more.

Trade unions traditionally sum up the year on 1 May. In the last 12 months, the FTUB helped people return over Br3.2 million in withheld or outstanding wages. “We reinstated 86 wrongfully terminated workers. We took part in the investigation of more than 100 workplace accidents to protect the rights of trade union members. This is just the most visible part of our work. We try to deal with all puzzling issues through negotiations with the government and employees,” Mikhail Orda stressed.

Labor Day celebrations in the Belarusian capital kicked off with a flower ceremony at the Minsk Hero City Memorial. They brought together some 10,000 people.
