Lukashenko: Critical mass of minor conflicts can result in a global showdown one day

ISTANBUL, 14 April (BelTA) – The accumulating critical mass of minor conflicts can result in a global showdown one day. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement in his speech during the 13th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, BelTA has learned.

The President said he was confident that those toying with the illusion that they can solve all problems through force today will lose tomorrow. “The decreasing ‘immunity' against the use of force is particularly alarming. The accumulating critical mass of minor conflicts can result in a global showdown one day,” believes the Belarusian leader.

In his words, the negative trend can be primarily countered by the development of systemic cooperation between individual countries and between major integration associations. The potential of regional formats can be utilized in full.

“We should fill with real content the relations not only between the West and the East but the North and the South while avoiding any contraposition or confrontation. Bearing this in mind, Belarus once put forth the idea of integration of integrations that fully complies with these approaches and is based on principles of unity and rapprochement,” stated Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of state noted that Belarus knows well how much peace costs and makes a tangible contribution to stronger stability and security, to the resolution of most complicated conflict situations. “Imagine what we could achieve if the colossal military budgets could be channeled into peaceful goals,” pointed out the President.

“I am convinced that we are capable of converting the conventional religious borders that span huge territories and affect millions of human lives in the 21st century into borders of friendship instead of confrontation. Today the number of opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation greatly exceeds the number of real or contrived contradictions,” stressed the Belarusian head of state.
