Defensive nature of snap inspection of nuclear weapons in Belarus emphasized

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – The snap inspection of delivery vehicles of non-strategic nuclear weapons is a purely defensive exercise. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement during a solemn meeting on the occasion of Victory Day on 7 May, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I’d like to note that this inspection is purely defensive. It is designed to ensure the readiness of Belarusian army units to handle special munitions and to polish the mechanism of control over the troops and interaction of Union State command bodies. Once the joint exercise is finished, our troops will continue taking steps to adequately respond to changes of the situation.”

BelTA reported earlier that the Belarusian army has launched a snap inspection of the delivery vehicles of non-strategic nuclear weapons upon the order of the Belarus president. The head of state revealed details of the snap inspection during the solemn meeting on the occasion of Victory Day.
