160,000 tonnes of confectionery goods made in Belarus in 2023

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – Last year saw 160,000 tonnes of confectionery goods made in Belarus, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian state food industry concern Belgospishcheprom Aleksandr Yakovchits.

Aleksandr Yakovchits said: “The confectionery industry in our country is one of the largest ones from the point of view of how many enterprises operate in this sector of the economy. There are more than 200 of them. Belgospishcheprom enterprises employ about 5,500 people. This industry is one of the most up-to-date ones in terms of the availability of process equipment that meets modern requirements and reality. It is also one of the industries with the highest competition. Suffice it to say that Belgospishcheprom enterprises alone have about 6,000 product titles in their portfolio.”

The official also talked about the development of the industry last year. “As much as 160,000 tonnes of confectionery goods was made in Belarus in 2023, 3.6% up from 2022. Manufacturing facilities operated at 86.2% of their output capacity. We also saw positive dynamics: an increase of 1.2% in comparison with 2022. A third of the manufactured products are exported. In 2023 we earned $173 million in foreign currency and increased export by 15% in physical terms. The products were shipped to 41 countries,” the deputy chairman of the Belarusian state food industry concern Belgospishcheprom said.
