
MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) - President of Belarus’ National Olympic Committee Viktor Lukashenko met with President of the Russian Olympic Committee, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Mikhail Degtyarev, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian NOC.
On the first day of the Cup of the Strongest Athletes in Raubichi, the parties discussed the status of the projects within the framework of bilateral cooperation in sport and plans for the future. Viktor Lukashenko expressed confidence that the interaction between the two fraternal countries in physical education and sport will continue to grow. By the example of the biathlon cup in Raubichi and other joint tournaments, Belarus and Russia prove that it is possible to hold competitions of the highest world level even at a time of unfair sanctions. “Our cooperation with Russia is gaining momentum. More than 20 sports industry specialists took courses in the Russian International Olympic University last year alone; about 300 specialists have completed training since 2019. Projects such as Children of Asia, Children of Primorye, where our children show high results, are also very important. Young people understand what big tournaments are. This inspires and motivates them. I would like us to continue and strengthen this cooperation,” Viktor Lukashenko emphasized.

Mikhail Degtyarev noted that the Russian sports community is determined to return to the international Olympic family and thanked the Belarusian side for the long-standing support and joint projects. “Together with you we gained good competitive practice in these difficult times for our sport. We feel and appreciate this fraternal support and shoulder,” Mikhail Degtyarev said. He invited the head of the NOC of Belarus to attend the international forum Russia is a Sporting Nation in Ufa, the Forum of Young Olympians, where the Belarusian delegation is traditionally the largest, as well as other upcoming sporting events in Russia. He also congratulated Viktor Lukashenko on his re-election for a new term as NOC President and emphasized that the recognition of the election by the International Olympic Committee is a good signal and a sign, the result of hard work of the NOC leadership of Belarus and the entire sports industry of the country.
