European handball season can re-start in June

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) - The European Handball Federation has presented a competition plan for a potential re-start of the European handball season which has been suspended amid the global spread of the coronavirus COVID-19. The decision was taken on 25 March following a videoconference of the EHF Executive Committee, BelTA has learned.

If the situation allows, matches will be played in summer only if it is possible to provide all necessary safety conditions for all the participants, including players, coaches, referees and fans. According to the preliminary plan, qualifying stages can take place on 3 June 3 to 5 July. The VELUX EHF FINAL4 and the MEN'S EHF Cup Finals will be moved to August, while the DELO WOMEN'S EHF FINAL4 - to September.

The EHF will also do its best to adapt the handball calendar of the current and next seasons in accordance with the changes in the international sports arena, in particular due to the postponement of the Olympic Games and Olympic qualifying tournaments.
