Belarusian swimmers win 35 medals at 3rd CIS Games

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) - Belarusian swimmers have wrapped up their competition at the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan, BelTA has learned.

On the final day of the swimming event, Belarusian athletes secured one silver and two bronze medals. Belarus’ team of Yahor Sakovich, Valeriya Shilko, Mikita Lyakh, and Anastasia Vasilenko collected silver in the mixed 4x100m medley relay. Bronze was claimed by Belarus’ team of Mikita Apanasik, Usevalad Sarakavik, Maksim Malyshka, and Aliaksei Tarasenka in the men's 4x100m medley relay. Swimmer Kseniya Mastovich earned bronze in the women's 400m individual medley.

This brought the Belarusian swimming team's final medal tally at the 3rd CIS Games to 35: four gold, 15 silver, and 16 bronze medals.

Usevalad Sarakavik became a double champion of the competition, winning gold in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke. Anastasiya Vasilenko and Mikita Lyakh each secured a gold medal, both in the 50m freestyle.

The 3rd CIS Games are underway across seven Azerbaijani cities: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Shaki, Goygol, and Khankendi. The international event has brought together over 1,600 athletes under the age of 23 from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Cuba, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Oman. The Belarusian delegation includes 241 athletes competing in 21 sport disciplines.

The program of the multi-sport forum, which lasts until 8 October, includes football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, sambo, boxing, judo, taekwondo, badminton, table tennis, trampoline, archery, shooting (rifle/pistol and shotgun), fencing, wrestling, karate, rowing, canoe sprint, rhythmic gymnastics, and chovgan (equestrian sport).
