“This is a direct interference”. Belarus’ CEC head comments on EP resolution

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) - The European Parliament resolution on the presidential election in Belarus is a direct interference in the electoral sovereignty of the country, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko told the media on 23 January, BelTA has learned.

“This is a direct interference in the electoral sovereignty of our country. This notion is enshrined in the National Security Concept. The concept was approved by the Belarusian People's Congress. In my opinion, it is necessary to make appropriate assessments and draw appropriate conclusions,” Igor Karpenko said.

“Any politician should be careful in their judgments and statements. How can one give an assessment of a process that has just started and has not yet been finalized?” the CEC head said. “What sources do they draw information from? Is it someone out there, abroad, wrote something on the knee and issued as the ultimate truth?”

“We must clearly understand that the presidential election in Belarus is held in the interests of our people, in the interests of our country, and no one will be allowed to interfere with our sovereign right to hold elections in accordance with our electoral legislation,” the CEC head added.
