Some 101 international observers accredited to monitor Belarus' referendum

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) - According to the latest data, the referendum commissions have already accredited 39,909 national observers, BelTA learned from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus.

The majority of observers (29,336) represent public associations: trade unions, members of Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (8,906), BRSM Youth Union (4,674), Belaya Rus (4,628), and the Belarusian Union of Women (3,903).

Political parties have so far sent 1,557 observers to the referendum commissions, most of them (989) from the Communist Party of Belarus.

Labor collectives sent 3,370 observers, and some 5,646 have been sent from citizens.

Observers can be sent through 27 February.

The Central Election Commission accredited 101 international observers. Ninety-two of them represent the CIS Observation Mission, including 14 sent by the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. Eight observers were accredited from the Central Electoral Commissions of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia and Tajikistan, one - from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The process of sending observers continues.
