Sergeyenko calls for preserving achievements of sovereign Belarus

OSIPOVICHI, 24 March (BelTA) – It is important to preserve the achievements of sovereign Belarus and historical memory of our people, Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with representatives of railway transport and engineering companies in Osipovichi, BelTA has learned.

“It is important for us to preserve the achievements of sovereign Belarus and the historical memory of our people about the feat of our ancestors during the Great Patriotic War. In those distant and terrible years they fought on the battlefields, while today a war is going on in the information space. Thus, it is important not to succumb to provocations - the entire world is now the arena of attempts to discredit the existing authorities, to present those who are trying to destabilize the situation as heroes. There is a substitution of concepts, they are trying to make heroes from people who are not heroes,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

“As a rule, for an ordinary person the railway conjures up images of traveling, people find your profession romantic. When I was a child, I thought the same way and I still think so. At the same time I understand what an important and strategic role the railway plays for any state. Your work is very important for the country, the railway is a kind of an artery for the transportation sector of our state. First of all, I would like to thank representatives of the teams present here for their selfless work, for smooth operation of the sector in the difficult conditions of last year,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

According to him, the meeting turned out to be interesting and intense. Among the topics discussed were the pandemic, the political situation in the world and in Belarus, the economic and social development of Belarus, the achievements of the state over the years of its existence.

“There are 12 organizations and enterprises in Osipovichi that are part of the Mogilev branch of Belarusian Railways. Their contribution to the operation of the entire branch is about 40%. They employ 3,500 people who work at the railway station, the carriage and locomotive depot, the track station and other facilities. Representatives of all of them showed an interest in this meeting. A number of questions were asked about efforts to improve living standards, the work of the Constitutional Commission, the development of political parties. I would like to note that last year, amidst the pandemic and certain political difficulties, the railway maintained smooth and uninterrupted operation, fulfilling all the tasks assigned to it. There were certain losses due to the drop in traffic flows, primarily passenger traffic. However the company has survived, it keeps working and is optimistic about the future. This demonstrates that our people can overcome any difficulties.” Igor Sergeyenko said.

One of the attendees, employee of the Osipovichi wagon depot Yevgeny Karpov noted that the meeting with Igor Sergeyenko touched upon a number of issues. “It was interesting to hear about the socio-economic situation in the country, about possible amendments to the Constitution. I am happy with my working conditions. I am from Bobruisk, therefore I was given a place in a dormitory, just like the team I am in charge of. In order to encourage young people to stay in small towns, their housing needs should be addressed,” the young man said.
