Russian long-range radar in Belarus to track U.S. missile defense system in Europe

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The Russian radar station Volga, which is located in Belarus and is part of the missile launch detection system, will be handy if the United States of America deploys a missile defense system in Europe. The statement was made by Andrei Revenok, Chief of the Russian Main Center for Missile Attack Warning, TASS reports.

According to the source, the radar station operates to take care of its designated scan sector. Its usefulness may increase if the USA deploys a missile defense system, which, Andrei Revenok noted, can also be used to deliver missile strikes.

The radar station was built not far from Baranovichi, Brest Oblast in the 1980s in response to the USA's deployment of Pershing 2 missiles in West Germany.
