MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) – The Belarus 1 TV channel has aired a snippet from the film Time Has Chosen Us where Aleksandr Lukashenko was shown arguing with USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev, BelTA reports.
Aleksandr Lukashenko’s political career began in 1990 when he was elected member of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR. Already at the onset of his political career, Aleksandr Lukashenko showed himself as a vocal and staunch advocate of people’s interests who was ready to defend his convictions at any level regardless of his position.
Here is a recording of his dispute with USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev about the development of agriculture in the Soviet Union. “No decrees are needed, Mikhail Sergeyevich. Maybe this issue needs to be discussed at the level of the secretary general,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said addressing the president of the Soviet Union.
“Yes, I have already said that it is about discipline and responsibility, discipline and order...” Mikhail Gorbachev responded.
“Order should be reinstated,” added Aleksandr Lukashenko.
“Perestroika will fail without it,” said the USSR president.
“Everything will fail,” the fledgling Belarusian politician added.
