MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – A chapel in the former Ganuta estate of Michal Kleofas Oginski has been opened after restoration in Vileika District, BelTA learned from the press service of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee.
The restored chapel, a historical and cultural treasure of the former Ganuta estate, was opened on Michal Kleofas Oginski’s birthday.
Two chapels stood at the estate and cemetery entrances, each containing a wooden Virgin Mary statue. Though the famous estate itself is gone, surviving only in photos, these two chapels have been preserved.
Peaceful and picturesque nature of the region is said to have been the source of inspiration for Michal Kleofas Oginski’s famous polonaise Farewell to the Homeland, a piece he might have composed while spending time at his beloved estate.
