Number of electric cars in Belarus past 2,500

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – The total number of registered electric cars in Belarus has exceeded 2,500, the press service of the Belarusian industrial group Belorusneft told BelTA. Belorusneft is the company in charge of building and operating the nationwide charging station chain Malanka.

According to the source, up to 200 new users are registered in the Malanka mobile app every month. The charging stations offer 250 charging sessions on the average every day. The total number of charging sessions in the last two months has exceeded 15,000.

Chinese economy-class electric cars are now particularly popular with Belarusians. However, their owners face unexpected difficulties such as GB/T power sockets with no matching infrastructure in Belarus.

Many drivers rely on adapters in such a situation. However, uncertified adapters can result in serious problems such as short circuits during charging. Short circuits can leave the car locked or can even start a fire. Low-quality adapters prevent drivers from charging their vehicles in five attempts out of every ten. Specialists recommend having the vehicles equipped with a European power socket at a car service station.
