Moscow City Duma delegation visits Minsk

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – A delegation of the Moscow City Duma headed by Chairman Alexey  Shaposhnikov has met with Chairman of the Minsk City Council of Deputies Artyom Tsuran in the Minsk City Hall to discuss cooperation between the two capitals, cultural and economic ties, as well as preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, BelTA has learned.

Artyom Tsuran highlighted the importance of interregional cooperation. “We are very happy tho host our colleagues and partners from Moscow. Of course, the economy comes first, but public diplomacy is also of great importance. Heads of our educational institutions, healthcare, and public utility companies maintain contacts. The main goal of the meeting is to upgrade contacts and explore new forms of cooperation. We hope not only to expand economic ties, but also to deepen interaction between people, employees of enterprises and organizations of our cities,” he said.

Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexey Shaposhnikov emphasized that friendship between Minsk and Moscow remains a key aspect of partnership. “There can be nothing more interesting than friendship, communication and mutual trips between Moscow and Minsk,” he emphasized.

Particular attention at the meeting was paid to preparations for the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Among the proposed initiatives is a motor rally through hero cities. One of the routes will pass through the Brest Hero Fortress, Minsk, Smolensk and Moscow. Routes from Murmansk via St. Petersburg to Moscow and from Sevastopol via Kerch, Novorossiysk, Volgograd, Tula and Moscow are also planned. “We want to hold this big rally between 4 May and 8 May. Participants of the special military operation, heroes of the Republic of Belarus will be invited, and I am sure that together with our Minsk colleagues we will be able to make this project really remarkable,” said Alexey Shaposhnikov.

The parties also discussed tourist exchange, given that a significant part of medical tourists coming to Belarus are Russian citizens.

The participants of the meeting reaffirmed their interest in bilateral dialogue and in a return visit of the Minsk delegation to Moscow.
