Mogilev putting together humanitarian aid for refugees trapped on border

MOGILEV, 16 November (BelTA) – The Mogilev regional administration is collecting humanitarian aid for the refugees trapped on the Belarusian-Polish border. Structural subdivisions of the Mogilev regional administration, the Mogilev Council of Deputies and the Mogilev Regional Association of Local Councils of Deputies, local organizations have joined the humanitarian effort, BelTA has learned.

The humanitarian aid includes canned meat and fish, water, juices, baby food, bakery products, personal hygiene products, and also warm footwear and clothes.

We cannot stay away from people's misfortune, Chairwoman of the Mogilev Regional Council of Deputies Irina Rainchik said. "The difficult situation on the Belarusian-Polish border continues for several days already. Residents of Mogilev Oblast, public organizations, the deputy corps have already taken part in the humanitarian effort. The first truck with the humanitarian cargo was sent last week. We see that the situation persists but there is hope that everything will get better. Today, together with the deputy corps, the Mogilev Regional Association of Local Councils of Deputies, we have put together food packages, including baby food, water, basic necessities, which will also be sent to the border. The weather is very cold. We have seen photos and videos of young children, pregnant women. We understand how badly they need help," Irina Rainchik noted.

Representatives of the Committee on Labor, Employment and Social Security of the Mogilev regional administration also pitched in. “We feel sorry for the children, women, people trapped at the border. We never thought that we would witness such events taking place on the territory of Belarus not through the fault of Belarus. We have collected money, bought baby food, essentials, food products. Mercy, humanity, and kindness are universal values, which do not depend on nationality,” said head of the committee Zhanna Dmitriyeva.

Representatives of the Mogilev Pharmatsiya pharmaceutical company also joined the charitable campaign. “Most of our staff are women. Mothers. Seeing the plight of these people, among whom there are many children and pregnant women, it is impossible to remain indifferent. Our company has responded to a call for help. We have collected personal hygiene items, food and medical products for the refugees. Everyone understands how awful it is. Being outdoors 24/7, in freezing conditions is unimaginable,” said Director General Elena Romanenko.

“The cynical position of European countries with their ‘developed democracy' and the policy of double standards in relation to refugees proved that they would stop at nothing in order to achieve their geopolitical goals, even if children's lives are at stake. Belarusians once again showed their kindness, compassion and willingness to those in need of help,” Deputy Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Valery Malashko.
