SMORGON, 11 December (BelTA) – The work being carried out as part of the Year of Improvement is not a one-time campaign but a constant, systematic, and intense effort, Belarusian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Sergei Maslyak said following a public information day at the Ultradecor enterprise, BelTA has learned.
“The first decree signed by our leader in 2025 was the decree declaring the Year of Improvement. Given that the quality five-year plan for 2026-2030 has been announced, this is a relevant topic that covers virtually all areas. The Year of Improvement is precisely the launch of the five-year plan. The work being carried out overall, and not only within the Year of Improvement, is not a one-time campaign but a constant, systematic, intense effort,” Sergei Maslyak said.
The head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection added: “Following the decree, a corresponding plan for the Year of Improvement was adopted by a Council of Ministers resolution, covering all national government bodies, the population, the social welfare, and so on. The plan includes the implementation of 46-48 items, and all national government bodies without exception are assigned to fulfill these items, including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. Furthermore, we are the coordinators of this work within the improvement headquarters.”
“One should always set more ambitious goals than initially intended. But the numbers speak for themselves,” the minister noted. “This assessment should be given by the citizens of Belarus and those who visit us. Based on the feedback I hear, the assessment is quite high.”
He provided several figures: “Regarding the country’s greening, 304,000 trees have been planted and these are the results for 9 months. But we can already confidently say that this number will be higher. According to operational data, it is around 360,000. And without any doubt, we will reach the goal set for us, even exceed it.”
“By the end of 9 months, 377,000 shrubs have been planted. Here, the capital is the undoubted leader, with 177,000 of them planted, the majority along the Minsk Ring Road. A small record has been set for floral decoration, with over 32 million flowers planted. Here, too, the capital is the leader, with 10.6 million flowers planted in 9 months,” Sergei Maslyak said. He added that active work has also been carried out in other areas like demolition of dilapidated residential buildings, bringing land into agricultural use, major repairs and reconstruction of roads, and repairs of housing.
The Belarusian minister of natural resources and environmental protection held the public information day at Ultradecor enterprise. Sergei Maslyak emphasized the relevance of meetings with staff. “This is also very important from the perspective of seeing how stably the enterprise operates, what problems exist in production aspects, whether wages are paid on time, whether proper working conditions are created, and so on,” the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection said. “Citizens working in various regions of our country at enterprises may simply not possess the information that exists today, so our goal is to convey this information so that they understand and see what is being done in our state, what positive aspects there are. Again, if there are any questions, we are ready to hear some criticism addressed to us. It is normal to listen and then do everything possible to solve or address a particular problem or issue.”
