MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) – The Lithuanian government has decided to close the automobile border with Belarus for a month, Lithuanian mass media report.
The move has been previously recommended by the Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior.
In line with the Lithuanian government’s resolution the last two border crossings at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border will be closed: Medininkai and Salcininkai.
The border crossing Salcininkai will be completely shut down while Medininkai’s operation will be restricted. Exceptions will be granted to diplomats or persons carrying diplomatic mail and travelers in transit from Belarus to Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast and vice versa. Citizens of Lithuania and the European Union will be able to get back to Latvia via Medininkai. Foreigners with Lithuania’s temporary residence permits and humanitarian visas are eligible as well. Other individuals will be able to cross the border with assistance of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in exceptional cases.
The restrictions will stay in place till midnight on 30 November.
