MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) - Science plays an important role in high-performance sports, Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, said at the opening of the 3rd international scientific and practical conference "Applied sports science: Traditions, realities, prospects”, BelTA has learned.
The conference has brought together experts in sports medicine from various countries. The speakers include representatives of the National Science and Treatment Center for Sports, members of the Association of Sports Psychologists, and renowned Belarusian athletes.
“For most people, sport is an exciting spectacle, glorious victories, and a whirlpool of emotions. But it has another side: extreme physical and psychological strain, injuries, and the peaks and valleys of athletic condition. It is crucial for science to always be there, to help athletes unlock their full potential, to recover from intense competitions and injuries with minimal health consequences, to pay attention to young talents and guide them through all stages of development, in order to nurture brilliant champions," Vladimir Karanik said.
According to him, the task of sports medicine is not only to preserve an athlete's health during their career but also to ensure a long and pain-free life after its conclusion. “I hope that the symbiosis of doctors, scientists, and coaches will enable all athletes to showcase their best. I am pleased that many countries have maintained their commitment to the idea of sport without borders and are willing to continue cooperating with us for the sake of the beauty of sport and the well-being of our peoples,” he said.
