Expert explains errors of previous U.S. administration, benefits of lifting sanctions from Belarus

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – Primarily the United States of America will benefit from lifting sanctions from Belarus because the USA has lost access to the Belarusian market and the Russian one due to policies of the previous administration. The political analyst Piotr Petrovsky offered the opinion in a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project On Point.
“Contrary to interests of the United States of America the previous U.S. administration abandoned its presence in the Belarusian and Russian markets. They imposed sanctions and handed over the markets to their competitors. Then their experts, political scientists working in the current administration analyzed all this,” said Piotr Petrovsky. “They stated outright that they had allowed the import-substituting complex of the Union State [of Belarus and Russia] to replace American goods. In addition, Chinese comrades came and demonstrated that there are no irreplaceable American goods.”

Thus, the political analyst emphasized, the voluntary surrender of the markets shocked the current U.S. administration. “I guess the lifting of the sanctions from Belarus will be beneficial to the Americans first and foremost. We have found suppliers who substitute American goods. And Americans want to return to the market because their hegemony is collapsing,” he believes.

According to the political analyst, the USA should think not only about what to sell to Belarus and in what quantities, but also how to gain a foothold here. It can be done, among other things, by creating joint manufacturing facilities. “If they want to compete with Russia, China, or anyone else, they have to offer Belarus appropriate investments. And we are not talking about some assembly shops, but about fairly deep manufacturing localization in accordance with requirements of the Eurasian Economic Union,” noted Piotr Petrovsky.

He mentioned the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone as one of the places where such projects could be implemented, as it is a favorable zone for high-tech manufacturing. “Why can't American investors go there and invite us, for example, to start manufacturing microelectronics or robotics? This is what we need today,” the political analyst concluded.
