MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - Close cooperation in intellectual property is a strategic priority for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), CIS First Deputy Secretary General Igor Petrishenko said at the 5th international conference Intellectual Property in the Modern World: Challenges of the Time and Development Prospects, BelTA has learned.

According to him, the conference in Minsk traditionally brings together leading specialists in the field of intellectual property, creating a unique platform for productive dialogue and the development of joint solutions. “For the CIS countries, close cooperation in intellectual property is of strategic importance. The creation of a unified, transparent, and predictable space for the protection and use of intellectual property opens up tremendous opportunities for business, science, and creativity. This not only enhances the investment appeal of our countries but also strengthens our position on the global market of science-intensive and high-tech products. An effective intellectual property system stimulates the development of innovations, ensures technology transfer, and promotes the development of competition. Ultimately, this leads to economic growth, the creation of new high-skilled jobs, and an increase in the prosperity of citizens across all CIS states,” Igor Petrishenko said.

The key instrument for the practical implementation of the scientific and technological agenda is the corresponding interstate program for innovative cooperation until 2030. The CIS first deputy secretary general is confident that its implementation will make it possible to combine efforts in breakthrough areas of science, utilize the competitive advantages of each country, and bring world-class products and technologies to the global market. The establishment of the corresponding infrastructure is underway to support this process.

The Scientific and Technological Development Strategy for 2026-2035 was adopted at a recent meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council. It is aimed at creating favorable conditions for interstate scientific and technological interaction. The strategy includes provisions on centers for subcontracting, competencies, and centers of excellence. The creation of such centers, alongside already existing institutions, will contribute to the formation of a full-fledged innovation ecosystem within the CIS.

According to Igor Petrishenko, it is important to more actively engage students, young scientists, and specialists in the field of intellectual property protection. Their fresh ideas will contribute to the development of integration processes in intellectual property, as well as the development and promotion of inventions and innovations across the Eurasian continent.
