CIS IPA observers to hold meetings in Parliament, CEC of Belarus

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - A group of international observers from the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, at the invitation of the National Assembly of Belarus, will monitor the referendum on constitutional amendments, BelTA learned from the press service of the IPA CIS.

The observers are set to meet with the leadership of the parliament and the CEC of Belarus on 26 February, and will monitor the referendum at polling stations in Minsk and other cities of the country on 27 February.

The monitoring group, which includes MPs of the CIS countries, is led by Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Dmitry Kobitsky, staff and experts of the CIS IPA International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens will also take part in the observation.

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No.14 “On calling the nationwide referendum” on 20 January. According to the document, the nationwide referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution shall be held on 27 February 2022. Early voting is scheduled for 22-26 February.
