Belarusian public organization Belaya Rus collects humanitarian relief package for refugees

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) - A batch of humanitarian aid for the migrants trapped on the Belarusian-Polish border has been handed over to the Belarusian Red Cross Society, BelTA has learned.

The Minsk city organization of the Belarusian public association Belaya Rus put together the humanitarian relief package. “Of course, we cannot stay indifferent to the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border, the crisis that has been created by the EU and the United States. We all sympathize and are concerned about the people left without shelter, food, basic sanitary conditions,” said Lyudmila Shipai, acting chairwoman of the Minsk city organization of Belaya Rus. “The most important thing for refugees who are stranded on the border outdoors is food. Therefore, the Minsk city organization and its primary organizations, just like many concerned citizens, collected its humanitarian relief package."

Grocery packages consist of canned meat, cereals, baby food, dairy products, bakery products and fruits. Humanitarian aid will be delivered to the border tonight. "When we issued a call on the members of Belaya Rus, everyone responded. Everything we do for people who need our help comes from the bottom of our hearts," she said.

Poland's actions towards refugees are inhumane, Lyudmila Shipai emphasized. "I hope very much that the crisis will be resolved soon," she added.

"At the border there are children, women, including pregnant women. The situation is very difficult. People feel trapped, and each of them needs help,” added Svetlana Leonenko, chairwoman of the Zavodskoy district organization of the Belaya Rus public association.
