MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) – Belarusian border service is ready for joint work with their Lithuanian counterparts provided a constructive dialogue is resumed, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee of Belarus.

Border service representatives of Belarus and Lithuania held a working meeting at the Lavoriškės checkpoint in Lithuania on 18 November. The parties discussed the current situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border and a number of pressing issues related to smuggling and illegal migration.

The Belarusian side noted that the work of the border agency is aimed at maintaining comfortable conditions for law-abiding citizens to cross the border, developing transit potential, and fostering economic and cultural ties with all neighboring countries, including Lithuania. It was noted that Lithuania unilaterally withdrew from several international agreements on border cooperation. Nevertheless, the State Border Committee of Belarus reaffirmed its willingness to work jointly provided that a full and constructive dialogue is resumed.

“The border should be a place of civilized cooperation in the spirit of partnership and equality,” the Belarusian border service emphasized.
