MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – The number of countries that show interest in BRICS formats and express desire to become part of the association is rising. Chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus Valentin Sukalo made the statement at a forum of presidents of supreme courts of BRICS countries in Sochi, Russia, BelTA has learned.
In his welcome address to the colleagues Valentin Sukalo expressed gratitude to organizers of the forum for the invitation to take part in its work. He remarked that an ever rising number of countries express interest in the BRICS format and express the desire to become part of it.
“An ever rising number of countries, including the Republic of Belarus, show interest in BRICS formats today and express the desire to become part of it,” Valentin Sukalo said.
In his opinion, it can be explained by the fact that equal dialogue and respect lie at the heart of cooperation between those states and members of the association. “Equal dialogue, respect, the choice of its own way of development by every country, the accommodation of each other’s interests, the desire to jointly look for solutions to emerging problems lie at the heart of cooperation of BRICS member states,” he said.
The chairman of Belarus’ Supreme Court is convinced that in conditions of new global challenges the demand for interaction between supreme courts is rising and the current forum enables favorable conditions for establishing mutual understanding about matters concerning the dispensation of justice, the buildup of trust and cooperation, the enrichment of legal systems. It also plays a major practical role in promoting and expanding the dialogue.
Belarus’ Supreme Court is always open to constructive interaction and cooperation, Valentin Sukalo added.
Participants of the forum discussed a number of matters relating to ensuring uniform court practice, court protection of social rights of citizens, introduction of technologies in court processes, harmonization of legislation of the BRICS countries, protection of investor rights as well as human rights and basic freedoms during criminal trials.
