Belarus questions Lithuania’s transparency after Ignalina NPP incident

MINSK, 29 November (BelTA) – This is a total disregard for international interaction mechanisms, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko told BelTA as he commented on the situation at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant.

According to previous mass media reports, a fire broke out in the primary radioactive waste processing complex of the Ignalina nuclear power plant on 25 November 2025. This incident is presumed to have been related to the decontamination of radioactive waste in a bead blasting machine. Belarus has not yet received any official information about the incident at the facility.

“This indicates that the concerns of Lithuania and all pro-Western ‘eco-activists’ regarding our Belarusian nuclear power plant have always been fake and politically motivated,” the expert stressed. “They have never been genuinely concerned about the region’s nuclear safety. This is part of the anti-Belarusian hostile stance of official Vilnius.”

Aleksandr Tishchenko pointed out that such behavior is irresponsible. “This demonstrates that Lithuania acts irresponsibly regarding these vital issues and has totally withdrawn from all international mechanisms for cooperation in regional security affairs,” he concluded.
