Belarus' Luninets forestry exports first batch of birch sap

BREST, 30 March (BelTA) - Brest Oblast of Belarus has launched the export of birch sap, Ilya Shpak, deputy head for ideological work at the Brest State Production Forestry Association told BelTA.

“The Luninets forestry has shipped 25 tonnes of birch sap to Lithuania. The Ivatsevichi, Pinsk and Gantsevichi forestries also have export agreements. Last year we exported 121.5 tonnes of juice. This spring we will proceed from the needs of the customer,” said Ilya Shpak.

The forestries of Brest Oblast started harvesting birch sap last week. The intensity of sap flow is still weak due to unfavorable weather. Despite this, the region has already harvested 424 tonnes of juice. “Forestries started harvesting at different times. Some forestries have already begun supplying juice to processing plants,” Ilya Shpak said.

Specialists point out that it is forbidden to harvest birch sap without a permit. Violators face fines.

Last year's birch sap harvesting season in Brest Oblast began in early March.
