MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ forestry enterprises have restored over 4,500 hectares of forests since the start of spring, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Forestry Ministry.
This year, Belarus plans to restore over 24,000 hectares through sowing and planting, including over 20,500 hectares in the spring.
Rapidly changing weather conditions are pushing foresters to hurry. The press service noted that the plan of spring forestry works is already 20% complete. This year, over 6,800 hectares of forests are expected to be restored in areas damaged by the summer storms, including 5,600 hectares in Gomel Oblast.
These days, the country is holding the forest restoration campaign Bringing Forests Back to Life. The Forestry Ministry calls on volunteers to provide any possible assistance, especially in Gomel Oblast and Mogilev Oblast, which were severely affected by last year's July storms. In order to take part in the campaign, reach out to your local forestry enterprise or a forest ranger station.
