MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – Pakistan and Belarus prioritize cooperation in transport, trade and investments, outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Belarus Sajjad Haider Khan told the media following a meeting with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko in Minsk on 3 January, BelTA has learned.

“The Belarusian president has recently visited Pakistan. During his meeting with Pakistan's prime minister, the parties discussed ways of promoting bilateral cooperation. A Pakistani delegation is set to visit Belarus in the near future. A joint meeting of the parliamentary commission is scheduled for February 2025,” Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan said.

According to him, Pakistan and Belarus have signed around 100 agreements and memorandums of understanding. “Sixteen of them were signed during the visit of the Belarusian head of state to Pakistan. These agreements cover all areas: trade, economy, culture, education, defense, and parliamentary interaction between our countries. Belarus and Pakistan are looking forward to fruitful cooperation in the future, as it has been the case in recent years. Undoubtedly, we will prioritize the development of transport, trade and investment cooperation," the ambassador stated.
“Currently, there are eight working groups between Belarus and Pakistan. We are planning to develop cooperation in the arms industry, pharmaceutics and tourism. These areas are important for our countries. During the visit of the Belarusian president to Pakistan, the parties discussed logistics and transportation issues between the two countries,” Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan emphasized.

Parliamentary cooperation between Belarus and Pakistan is also gaining momentum. “Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Sadiq paid a visit to Belarus in August 2024. We certainly look forward to a return visit. We hope that the parliamentary delegation of Belarus will visit Pakistan soon,” he added.
