MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on the importance of the election day during the Marathon of Unity campaign, BelTA learned.
The president recalled that he had recently visited many enterprises that were being opened and given new life. “This is our future. I have seen the sparkling eyes of workers, farmers, intellectuals, IT specialists the pool of whose has become larger. What do they say? They say that on 26 January we will choose our destiny - the future of the state. We determined our destiny decades ago - a sovereign, independent state,” the head of state said. “As the Marathon has shown, we know how to be proud of what we should be proud of. But at the same time we do not suffer from gigantomania. We live our lives. We have never created any problems for our neighbors and we will never do so. Not only for our neighbors but all the states. The overwhelming majority of people in these states want to live and work in peace and to be proud of their countries. Belarusians want the same.“We are helping them in that and will continue to do so. This is our philosophy,” the head of state said.
Speaking about the significance of the election day, Aleksandr Lukashenko continued: “I also read and heard something: They say that 26 January is a day on which our lives depend. Our whole life does not depend on this day. Otherwise, what would we be worth if our lives depended on one day only,” the Belarusian leader said. “No, we chose our path a long time ago. Ours is a life of equal opportunity for all. It is a society of justice. We will rely on the order and security of our society. We will surely, this I promise, build a country for the people. Even if I am not here - you will build it. Because you have already done a lot. But this, I emphasize, will be a society of opportunities,” the Belarusian leader said.
“How you will harness these opportunities is not my business, not the state's business. It is up to you, your family, your relatives, your loved ones. Do not miss on your opportunities. We will do everything so that you can enter a university, get equal education, take your children to kindergarten. Everyone has equal opportunities. Just do not forget about your responsibilities,” the head of state added.
Answering the question, what the day, 26 January, is Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “The day is very important. On Sunday, 26 January, we must show the whole world: we are reasonable people, we are able to draw conclusions from past events and look forward to a peaceful and safe future. Which we must pass on to our children and grandchildren. There is no alternative. Because this is a turbulent all-encompassing time that has chosen us!”
