MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The measures Belarus’ banking system takes to ensure cybersecurity were pointed out by Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) Roman Golovchenko during a joint session of both chambers of the Belarusian parliament on 27 February, BelTA has learned.
Cybersecurity represents an important area of work of Belarus’ central bank. Efforts in this field are mostly focused on counteracting unauthorized payment operations, on reducing the number of frauds, and on adapting to new kinds of financial security threats. “Unfortunately, we see a rampant increase in the number of crimes across the globe. Scammers are constantly on the lookout for loopholes and new ways to deceive citizens. But together with defense, security, and law enforcement agencies and the banking sector we don’t stand idle either,” Roman Golovchenko stressed.
First of all, an automated incident processing system has been created and is fully operational. It collects all the information about incidents and suspicious operations in real time. All the banks and law enforcement agencies see this information.
Secondly, every bank has introduced so-called antifraud systems that block suspicious operations and share the data with the automated incident processing system in order for the other banks to prevent the withdrawal of funds as well. Nearly 19,000 incidents to the tune of over Br50 million were detected in 2025.
“But the system is just taking shape. The National Bank has approved standards for financial services and technologies that will come into effect in H2 2026. It is necessary to make uniformly tough rules for antifraud systems of the banks but certainly without detriment to the convenience of those, who use services of the banks,” the chairman of the Board of the National Bank noted.
