Lukashenko explains how to maximize appeal of Union State for people

MOSCOW, 26 February (BelTA) – It is important to implement the projects in the Union State that are important and needed by people. Then no one will need to be persuaded to support the Union State, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko stated at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State in Moscow on 26 February, BelTA has learned.
According to the president, the cross-border railway service set to launch soon on the Vitebsk-Smolensk and Orsha-Smolensk routes will serve to expand opportunities for citizens of the Union State.

“I often note, and I mentioned this to Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin [prime minister of Russia]. He often says about plans to strengthen and accelerate our cooperation in terms of transportation. As soon as you launched more Lastochkas [high-speed regular rail service between Minsk and Moscow], a huge number of Belarusians have started traveling to Moscow. And today this number of Lastochkas is already insufficient,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. "Vladimir Vladimirovich, I should note (I was just informed yesterday): our self-exiled opposition is already concerned that Belarusians are not traveling to Europe at all. Everyone is going east. Fewer - to China, more - to Moscow, to the Russian Federation. That’s what it means to be guided by real-life needs. We are doing what our people need."

Speaking about the launch of rail service between neighboring regions of Belarus and Russia, the president emphasized: “This is what is needed. And then there will be no need to persuade anyone about whether we need the union or not. These steps need to be taken for people.”

“I am confident that all of you truly appreciate the importance of Belarusian-Russian relations and the unprecedented depth of our integration. The issues under consideration will allow us to once again confirm the relevance of the Union State format,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added addressing the meeting participants.
