Lukashenko, Xi Jinping meet in Tianjin

TIANJIN, 31 August (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting in Tianjin, where the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit is taking place on 31 August-1 September, BelTA has learned.
During the current working visit of the head of state, special attention will be paid to the development of Belarusian-Chinese cooperation. In 2022, the level of bilateral relations between Belarus and China was upgraded to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership. “We see this because it is embodied in our cooperation, primarily in the economic sector. As for politics, God forbid that our economy, our economic and financial relations grow to the level of political relations,” the head of state said in an interview with China Media Group ahead of the visit.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that Belarus is learning from China on many issues and adopting its experience: “I am a firm believer that we should not just observe China, but we should take certain things and integrate them into our reality.”

The dynamic development of cooperation is also significantly aided by the personal friendship between the leaders of the two countries. The president emphasized that Belarus and China have no problems or disagreements: “If we need to coordinate a matter, make a joint decision, or support each other, a single call from Beijing to Minsk or vice versa is enough. We can agree on everything within a few minutes.”

At the start of the meeting Aleksandr Lukashenko praised China’s great development. “You are simply excellent - China's gigantic development! Organization, discipline, everything in its place; no one is wandering aimlessly. People are engaged in concrete work. I see this as a great success for your state and a significant achievement for your leadership and colleagues in China.

Belarus is adopting Chinese experience and learning in many areas, from the military-industrial complex to the production of consumer goods.

Aleksandr Lukashenko believes it is also possible to adopt China's experience in the political structure of the state. “Once, the Soviet Union and China built a model together that you have not lost, which operates in the organization and leadership of the People's Republic of China. Unfortunately, we have lost much,” the Belarusian leader said.

“I congratulate you on wisely and carefully guiding your country towards the goal you have set, without revolutions or upheavals,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

In turn, Xi Jinping noted that the China-Belarus relationship, characterized by all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership, is developing at a high level. “In June, we met in Beijing and decided to further deepen our multifaceted bilateral cooperation. We propose, based on the fruitful results achieved during the years of cooperation in science, technology, and innovation, to focus on developing new quality productive forces in the interests of our countries’ development,” the Chinese president stated.

He also emphasized the readiness to work with Belarusian partners to implement genuine multilateralism for peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit worldwide.

The current visit of the Belarusian president to China is the 16th in total. The last time Aleksandr Lukashenko was in Beijing was in early June 2025. During that visit, he had a friendly family meeting with President Xi Jinping. The format is largely unique. Aleksandr Lukashenko identified the technological modernization of certain sectors of industry in Belarus as one of the main issues in cooperation with China: “This is Xi Jinping's idea, which, as we can see, the world knows, is focused on a scientific and technological revolution in machine engineering. I am very grateful to my long-time friend and colleague for connecting Belarus to this process, which has gained very high momentum in China.”
