MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) - Belarusian war veterans are a symbol of the invincibility of the Belarusian people, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to mark the upcoming Day of Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of Belarus on 22 February, BelTA has learned.
“Among us today there are those who fought for our future in the harsh years of the Great Patriotic War, who bore the pain of the losses of their relatives, loved ones and comrades-in-arms through their whole life. A low bow and boundless gratitude to you, dear veterans of that terrible war. You are a symbol of invincibility of the Belarusian people!” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
The president also greeted veterans of the Armed Forces and active officers of the army: “You must have felt how much we need you this year, especially today. Special thanks to those who wore military shoulder straps, remain in the ranks and help the Belarusian people make up their minds. It is you who have quietly and calmly become a barrier on the way of the unscrupulous self-exiled opposition who have been trying to plant another uprising in the country. I have mentioned more than once that only real men, exceptionally brave and courageous ones, choose the profession of defending the Homeland in our turbulent times. You represent the continuity of patriotism and spiritual strength of the Belarusian people.”
