Lukashenko: Overseas players not interested in sustainable development of any country

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Overseas players can fight for spheres of geopolitical influence only by sowing death and devastation, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at an official reception to mark the Day of the Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

"Afghan war veterans are present here. They saw a different war, a war mixed with terrorism and banditry. The war and the recent events in Afghanistan have clearly shown that overseas players are not interested in the sustainable development of any country on our continent," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president stressed that they can fight for the spheres of geopolitical influence only in one way - by sowing death and devastation, including by sponsoring extremism and radical groups.

"Once again, another Afghan war ended in disgrace for the main ‘master' of our planet. Using layman's terms, we can say that working hands, the people who are accustomed to fighting and sowing misfortune have been freed up. They are looking for work today. Not long ago, when the coronavirus psychosis began, I said that it would be an additional factor contributing to the madness on our planet and that it would affect the events in the world and contribute to a large-scale redivision of the world. Little time has passed, just two years, and what do we see?" the head of state asked rhetorically.
