MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told journalists how he sampled some of the products ahead of the ceremony to present the State Quality Mark awards, BelTA has learned.
The State Quality Mark has been awarded to such food products as the Turkey Meat Nut Roll produced by Dzerzhinsky Agrokombinat; 1962 vanilla-flavored plombir ice cream in a waffle cup from the Kobrin Butter and Cheese Plant; Yegorka sweetened boiled whole condensed milk from the Rogachev Milk Canning Plant; and Lyubimaya Alyonka (Beloved Alyonka) milk chocolate produced by Kommunarka.
“Have we already gotten people used to turkey? Or not yet?” the head of state asked.
The president was briefed that demand for turkey meat is growing both in Belarus and abroad. Plans are in place to further expand production.
“I tried it at home. Today, I opened this brochure that the head of the President Administration prepared for me. I went to the kitchen and asked: 'Let me sample it.' They did not have it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. "Well, I don't eat Alyonka [Lyubimaya Alyonka chocolate]. As our runaway opposition says: 'I've put on weight.' So, I figure, since I need to lose weight, Alyonka is no longer an option for me. Neither is Rogachev condensed milk. So they brought it over in an hour. My youngest son and I had half an Alyonka bar. We also had the turkey meat for lunch.”
At the Kommunarka stand, where Lyubimaya Alyonka chocolate was presented, the president said: “Thank you, friends. This flavor has accompanied people throughout their lives – childhood, youth, and young adulthood… Don’t even offer me a treat. I probably haven’t eaten your chocolate for half a year. But today I sinned, though I shared it between two, half each.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko was told that the company is not stopping at the classic Alyonka, but is expanding its recipes. Around 15 varieties of Alyonka are now produced, including a version that substitutes for Kinder chocolate.
“Don’t stop. Work with your technologists to make good products. Keep going further,” the head of state said.
Ahead of the ceremony, the president also tried the Kobrin ice cream: “I know what it’s like. Today, I gave in to temptation again, because of you. Had some.” The ice cream is made according to the classic recipe. “I always insist that we should bring back the recipes from the Soviet period. And this applies not only to your product,” the Belarusian leader noted. “You are doing the right thing. It wasn’t all better back then, but much of what we had was superior.”
