MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – On behalf of the Belarusian people and himself, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko congratulated United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the 80th anniversary of the UN, BelTA learned from the Belarusian leader’s press service.
“Our nation participated in drafting the UN Charter and proudly stood among the Organization’s founding members – an organization for which there is no alternative today. It is why Belarusians feel a responsibility to keep it strong and influential,” the head of state remarked. “Having repeatedly proven its effectiveness in collectively responding to humanitarian emergencies and advancing development across the globe, the UN remains the paramount platform for dialogue and for seeking optimal solutions to overcome global challenges and threats.”
“This anniversary reminds us of the need to continue the historic mission established in 1945, following the victory in World War II, and to continue supporting the Organization as it strengthens international peace and security. The Republic of Belarus values the UN’s efforts and your personal contribution to preventing conflicts and upholding the universal values enshrined in its Charter. I wish to firmly emphasize that you can always count on the support of Belarus in this complex mission,” the president assured.
