MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Belarus should promote its mechanical engineering industry, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with the labor collectives of Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) and other enterprises of the MAZ holding company on 21 January, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled his previous visit to MAZ. Back then, the working conditions here were far from perfect, though the premises were at least warm.
“You started manufacturing and selling these buses, including on foreign markets. You have done a great job and deserve to have your own bus manufacturing facility. This year we will produce and sell 2,300 buses. These are good figures. We will also make and sell a total of 15,000 trucks. This is also not bad. Increase the output by about 2,000 vehicles every year and then there will be plenty of jobs for you and your children,” the president said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that this time he did not delve deeply into the enterprise's economic figures. It looks like the company is doing pretty well. “They will send me a report about this. They say you are on the up and up,” he noted.
“I was determined to preserve our industry giants. When my tenure as president just began, I promised myself to preserve everything that had been built by previous generations. And those of you who are older remember: we set off on this big journey together. MAZ, BelAZ, elevators in Mogilev, Integral (its products are in huge demand today), and all other enterprises - all this had to be saved. Frankly speaking (again, I do not want to overpraise you), when I see a MAZ vehicle, our buses, trolleybuses, I feel pride. And I am happy that we have preserved the mechanical engineering industry in our country,” the head of state said.
