Live broadcast of Belarus president's inauguration begins

MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – The inauguration ceremony of the newly-elected President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has begun, BelTA has learned.

The head of state is still on his way to the Palace of Independence. The route of the president's motorcade flanked by a motorcycle-mounted escort runs along Nezavisimosti Avenue and Pobeditelei Avenue, two main avenues of Minsk. There are a number of landmarks of the Belarusian capital along the route. Among them are the National Library, the Academy of Sciences, Victory Square, the Palace of the Republic, the Palace of Sports, the Holy Spirit Cathedral and the Arch-Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Minsk Hero City Monument and the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.

The ceremony will be aired live on the website of the President of the Republic of Belarus, by the First News TV channel and also Belarus 1, ONT, STV and MIR TV channels. The will also be made available on videobel.by and BelTA’s YouTube channel.

The inauguration ceremony will take place at the Grand Ceremonial Hall - the largest hall in the Palace of Independence. More than 1,100 people are expected to attend the event. Aleksandr Lukashenko will take the Presidential Oath, which reads as follows: “In assuming the office of the President of the Republic of Belarus, I solemnly swear to faithfully serve the people of the Republic of Belarus, to respect and protect the rights and freedoms of man and citizen, to observe and protect the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, to fulfill the high duties entrusted to me in a holy and conscientious manner”.

The inauguration ceremony will be followed by a ceremony to swear the oath of allegiance by the military to the Belarusian people and the President of the Republic of Belarus at the State Flag Square next to the Palace of Independence.
