MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) - It has become clear that the European Union has no sovereignty at all, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on Valaam Island, Republic of Karelia, Russia on 1 August, BelTA has learned.
“Not long ago, political analysts and broader political circles used to say that the European Union is an economic giant but a political dwarf. These aren’t my words. I don’t mean to offend anyone. We’ve read this ourselves in Western sources,” he remarked “In today’s world, sovereignty has always mattered, but now it’s particularly crucial, including for economic development. It was clear that the EU’s sovereignty was limited. Today, it has become obvious that it doesn’t exist at all.”
Vladimir Putin emphasized that the loss of political sovereignty inevitably leads to the loss of economic sovereignty, accompanied by enormous setbacks.
