Opinion: CIS would like to see Ukraine as full member

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – The CIS countries want Ukraine to be a full-fledged member of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Russia's Permanent Representative to the CIS Andrei Grozov told the media ahead of a meeting of the group of experts to update the provisions of the CIS development concept at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 23 April, BelTA has learned.

“The CIS member states are interested in Ukraine's full-fledged participation in multilateral cooperation in the Commonwealth of Independent States. They have made it clear on numerous occasions, including at the supreme level,” said Andrei Grozov.

In his words, Ukraine's plans regarding its further participation in the CIS is still unknown. “It is better to address these questions regarding Ukraine's further CIS plans to our Ukrainian partners. So far these have been only statements. We will wait and see what steps the new president administration and the new government of Ukraine will make,” the Russian representative said.

Volodymyr Zelensky won the Ukrainian presidency in the second round of the presidential poll on 21 April.
