MP: West is trying to discredit Belarus- Russia cooperation

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The West is making every effort to discredit the cooperation between Belarus and Russia, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rachkov said at the conference "Security and Economic Sovereignty of the Union State: Common Priorities” in Moscow on 15 February, BelTA had learned.

“Being members of the Union State, Belarus and Russia attach great important to the implementation of the joint foreign policy program and the updated Union State Military Doctrine. The alignment of these documents is particularly relevant in the context of a massive smear campaign against the two countries, in particular when it comes to the situation around Ukraine. Recently, our foreign ministries have significantly increased their coordination on international platforms and joined efforts with other friendly countries and associations. Priority is given to joint response to media attacks against us, unilateral restrictive measures, politicization of the work of international organizations and the imposition of a NATO-centric security model in Europe,” Sergei Rachkov said.

The parliamentarian noted that the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia are trying to resolve all issues using political and diplomatic means. “Contrary to that, Western states show unwillingness to look for a compromise. In addition, the West is trying in every possible way to discredit the cooperation between Belarus and Russia, interfere in domestic policy and destabilize the situation in our countries,” he noted.

According to Sergei Rachkov, the updated Union State Military Doctrine approved by the Supreme State Council on 4 November 2021 will be very conducive in ensuring the security and sovereignty of the Union State. “The doctrine will help expand cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the defense industry, ensure military security, primarily along the common border of the Union State. The military doctrine took on board significant changes in the military and political situation in Eastern Europe in recent years, and offered the military, political and economic guidelines for ensuring military security and joint defense of the Union State,” he said.

The conference "Security and Economic Sovereignty of the Union State: Common Priorities" held via a video link was hosted by Belaya Rus public organization and the Civic Chamber of Russia. It was also organized by the Gromyko Association for Foreign Policy Studies.
