Belarus’ security chief holds multiple meetings at Moscow security forum

MOSCOW, 29 May (BelTA) - The Global South and Eastern countries expressed strong interest in Belarus’ experience in security measures and countering Western sanctions at the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues held in Moscow on 27-29 May, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told the media, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Volfovich delivered a speech at the plenary session and over two days held several meetings with delegations from Russia, China, Türkiye, Myanmar, Vietnam, Serbia, Sudan, and Tajikistan. Several talks, including with Iranian representatives, took place in an informal format. Multilateral meetings were also held between security officials from SCO and CIS countries.

“The value of such forums lies in the fact that beyond hosting sessions that address common challenges and threats, this platform facilitates numerous bilateral meetings with a wide range of countries. The forum welcomed around 120 foreign delegations. In addition to pre-arranged bilateral meetings initiated by Belarus, there was a strong interest in conducting additional talks from several nations, particularly from the Global South. Countries are keen to learn from Belarus' experience, especially in countering sanctions and political pressure from the West, as many nations face similar challenges today. There is a broad interest in how Belarus resists pressure politically and navigates economic constraints effectively,” Aleksandr Volfovich emphasized.

"The countries of the Global South and East are interested in expanding cooperation, studying our experience in economic matters, and acquiring our peaceful technology. They are certainly concerned with countering military threats, that is they are also interested in military-technical supplies," he added.

"All these countries have a high regard for Belarus and our president. We see that these states respect our leader," Aleksandr Volfovich said.

According to him, during bilateral meetings, foreign partners expressed interest in the Belarusian initiative to develop the Charter of Multipolarity and Diversity in the 21st Century. "At the plenary session of the forum, I reminded everyone that, at the initiative of our president, Belarus proposed the development of this Charter to shape a new Eurasian security architecture. Throughout our bilateral meetings, many countries showed interest in our approaches to these issues. Our initiative has received support and has generated strong interest among several nations," he stated.

"Security issues, as we all understand, are now coming to the forefront. The measures Belarus is taking to ensure its security and protect its national interests are attracting interest from our colleagues in the Global South and East - the global majority," Aleksandr Volfovich concluded.
