BEIJING, 2 September (BelTA) – At the meeting in Tianjin on 31 August, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Chinese President Xi Jinping effectively launched a two-year cooperation program in technology and manufacturing industry, Belarus’ First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov told BelTA.
“At the meeting with Xi Jinping, the two leaders agreed on the next two years of joint development and cooperation in technology and manufacturing industry. In fact, we have already begun this year a cycle of investment projects (without waiting for 2026-2027) which, in my view, in two to four years at most, will completely transform the technological landscape of our country,” he said.
“The president not only sets tasks but, as usual, leads by example [referring to the effectiveness of meetings and foreign visits]. It was only in June that meetings took place [during Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visit to Beijing], and today we already have tangible results from those meetings. A number of specific investment projects have been signed, with a total value at this stage of about $130 million,” he stressed.
Nikolai Snopkov noted that this amount does not take into account the value of the technologies that China is transferring to Belarus, and the costs of developing them are very high. “For example, one of the companies with which a specific investment project was signed today spends $2 billion a year on R&D – research and development. This, by and large, speaks to the level of the final value of the signed documents,” he remarked.
According to him, these technologies primarily relate to mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, including for agriculture.
