Construction industry seen as driver of Belarus’ economic development

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) - The construction industry is a driver of the country's economic development, Belarusian First Deputy Architecture and Construction Minister Vladimir Naumovich said at the opening of the 27th international architecture and construction exhibition BUDEXPO, BelTA has learned.

In his welcome address to the BUDEXPO participants, the First Deputy Minister congratulated all attendees on the event. “Our country is developing dynamically, and one of the drivers of its development in recent years has been the construction industry. We have crossed the threshold of approximately 6.3% in the country's GDP. This became possible precisely thanks to those gathered here, those employed in the construction industry and engineering organizations. On behalf of the ministry, thank you very much for the results achieved,” the first deputy minister said.

He also emphasized that more than 80 companies from Belarus, Russia, China, and Kazakhstan were participating in the exhibition.

“Our country is always open for negotiations, and I hope that everyone gathered here will find partners within the framework of the planned events, discover something interesting for themselves, and that the exhibition will bring tangible results,” Vladimir Naumovich stressed.

Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services of Kyrgyzstan Talantbek Imanakun uulu emphasized that BUDEXPO is one of the leading platforms for showcasing the most modern achievements, including in the construction industry, exchanging technological experience, and establishing partnerships.

“The construction industries in all CIS countries play a strategic role in ensuring economic growth and the quality of life of citizens. For our counrty, the development of this sector is also one of the key priorities. Kyrgyzstan is entering a period of a construction boom; we are open to cooperation with international companies, investors, and building materials manufacturers. The country is creating favorable conditions for this,” the minister said.

Anatoly Nichkasov, Chairman of the National Union of Builders, noted that the exhibition is generating significant interest from foreign partners. As an example, he cited cooperation with Chinese builders.

“We have 12 Chinese companies represented here. They are part of the association of commercial organizations in the construction sector. We all know the result of such cooperation. The most prominent facilities were commissioned with the participation of the head of state - the National Football Stadium and the wonderful multifunctional swimming pool. Earlier, there was the development of the Lebyazhy residential area on Timiryazev Street. This cooperation continues, including in the implementation of new technologies presented at the exhibition today,” he said.

Oleg Bykovsky, Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Architects, mentioned that in the year of the 90th anniversary of the organization he heads, the 16th Architecture Festival will open as part of the exhibition. The festival will be held through 25 October.

The exhibition will be running in Minsk through 19 September.
