Brest Oblast enterprises sign $120m worth of contracts ahead of Belarusian-Russian forum

BREST, 25 June (BelTA) – As part of preparations for the 8th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia Brest Oblast enterprises have signed commercial contracts worth over $120 million with Russian partners, BelTA learned from representatives of the Brest Oblast administration.

Apart from that, an action plan on implementing an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation between the governments of Belarus and Russia's Penza Oblast in 2021-2022 has been prepared for signing. The Brest Oblast governor will head of the working group on cooperation with Penza Oblast.

In January-April 2021 Brest Oblast enterprises exported $603.2 million worth of merchandise to Russia, 110.1% as against the same period of last year. Russia accounted for nearly 63% of Brest Oblast's total export. The main exports were meat and dairy products, cattle meat, ready-to-eat and tinned fish, gas stoves, children's toys, and furniture. Brest Oblast imported tires, coal, fresh pork, barley, sunflower oil, and other goods from Russia.

There are over 330 companies with a share of Russian capital in Brest Oblast. The most prominent ones are Brestgazoapparat, Vastega, Anrex, BelINECO, STiM, RusBelGaz, and Frost&Co.

Brest Oblast has signed and implements agreements on cooperation with Russian regions, including Penza Oblast, Astrakhan Oblast, Belgorod Oblast, Bryansk Oblast, Irkutsk Oblast, Kaliningrad Oblast, Kaluga Oblast, Kostroma Oblast, Lipetsk Oblast, Novosibirsk Oblast, Pskov Oblast, Saratov Oblast, Smolensk Oblast, Tyumen Oblast. Apart from that, Brest Oblast cities and districts have signed over 40 agreements on cooperation with Russian cities and districts.

The 8th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will take place on 29 June – 1 July using videoconferencing technologies. The forum will focus on R&D cooperation in the digitization age.
