Belarus’ PM: CIS countries show economic growth above global average

DUSHANBE, 5 June (BelTA) - All CIS member states demonstrate sustained economic growth, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said during a meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Dushanbe on 5 June, BelTA has learned.

"The CIS countries have experienced economic growth and demonstrated GDP growth above the global average for the second straight year. This trend clearly shows the tangible benefits that each member state gains from economic integration within the CIS. However, we should not rest on our oars. We cannot ignore global market volatility caused by various factors," Aleksandr Turchin stressed.
The prime minister outlined key priorities for economic cooperation to develop the CIS. "The use of free trade mechanisms for goods and services and the removal of trade barriers will allow us to reach a new level of trade and economic relations within the CIS. We must actively engage the high-level working group to analyze complaints and eliminate obstacles to mutual trade among CIS countries. The implementation of the free trade agreement for services across all signatory states is also crucial," he emphasized.
Another key priority is the formation of a unified scientific and technological space to achieve technological sovereignty of the CIS countries. "I propose that the CIS Executive Committee explore ways we can leverage our technological potential to develop joint high value-added production. We also need to focus on expanding industrial cooperation and increasing the localization of manufactured products. The agreement on CIS cooperation in heavy engineering which will be signed today will contribute to this goal," Aleksandr Turchin stated.

Digitalization is also among major priorities. "The widespread adoption of modern information and communication technologies drives economic growth and improves the quality of services provided to the population. Joint projects in this field, which are of interest to all CIS member states, will provide additional momentum for multifaceted cooperation within the CIS. We believe that creating a unified digital space within the CIS will benefit both the organization as a whole and each participating country individually," the prime minister emphasized.

He also highlighted strengthening the CIS's international status and fostering practical cooperation among sectoral councils and core organizations. "The accumulated experience of CIS member states in various fields, along with an established regulatory framework, allows the CIS to position itself prominently on the international stage and have a significant presence in global information space," Aleksandr Turchin concluded.
