Belarus, Azerbaijan explore new areas of cooperation

MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Azerbaijan cooperate across a wide range of areas, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Natalya Petkevich said following the 15th meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Azerbaijani commission on trade and economic cooperation in Baku, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

According to Natalya Petkevich, Belarus and Azerbaijan cooperate across a wide range of areas. A meeting of the intergovernmental commission was in preparation for quite a long time. Starting in August, the parties reviewed a significant number of issues and achieved serious results. “We have quite a good lift manufacture here, which has recently reopened. There is a tractor assembly plant, major projects in industrial cooperation, and the assembly of firefighting and rescue equipment and vehicles based on MAZ chassis. Our colleagues showed interest in some new items,” the deputy prime minister said.

As examples of avenues for further cooperation, she cited mobile paramedic stations based on MAZ chassis, a “restaurant on wheels” made for Mak.by, and other mobile retail facilities. Specific negotiations were also held regarding the production of refrigerators and household appliances. There may be demand for TV sets. “Azerbaijan is on the path of creating national manufactures. So we are talking about localization and the creation of joint production facilities,” Natalya Petkevich said.

Belarus is also interested in working in the new territories. The expertise of Belarusian specialists is trusted. “The heads of state set the task of building an agro-town here. But this is not just about building a town, but rather about one with its own agro-industrial infrastructure. Therefore, we are currently working on the design part. The contract has been signed, and our design institute is already working. We want to become the general contractor for this project. I hope we will get this license,” Natalya Petkevich said.

Another promising area is the construction of a metro in Baku. Azerbaijan believes it is a very convenient means of transport. “They are very interested in our experience, especially since our head of state once preserved the competencies in metro construction. Metro construction in our country is ongoing. We have also expressed our willingness to share our experience and participate. Despite the fact that a foreign company has already won the tender, we have a chance to get a share of this project,” Natalya Petkevich said.

The parties also discussed the establishment of a joint pharmaceutical manufacture. “The joint production of veterinary drugs is at an active stage. For a large number of items, we are already finalizing the agreements. We must fulfill all the tasks that the heads of state and government have set for us,” Natalya Petkevich said.
