Students from 28 countries to take part in moot court competition in Minsk

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) – Minsk will host ICC Lex Mercatoria, an annual international moot court competition on international trade law and arbitration, on 25-28 November, BelTA learned from the Association for International Law and Arbitration.

This year the competition will feature teams and referees from 28 countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, Kazakhstan, Portugal, Russia, and Ukraine and a team of Harvard law school.

The teams are to resolve the mock case prepared by the International Court of Arbitration on the basis of the ICC Rules of Arbitration, said Dr. Andrey Kozik, Secretary General of the Association for International Law and Arbitration. The event is held in the format of an arbitration hearing. Mock cases will be heard by more than 70 international arbitrators, including representatives and partners from leading international law firms such as Baker & McKenzie, Dentons, White & Case.

The winners will be honored with prizes and will be given an opportunity to take internships in major international law firms.

“ICC Lex Mercatoria is held under the auspices of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. Its President Alexis Mourre is the head of the organizing committee of the competition,” the Association for International Law and Arbitration informed.

The competition will be co-located with the international law forum which will feature leading experts in international arbitration and international legal community.

The organizers of the competition are the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the International Law & Arbitration Association, Law Department of Belarusian State University, Belarusian Union of Lawyers, the international arbitration court at the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and others.
