MFA: Belarus diplomats do not need permission to commemorate Soviet soldiers who liberated Europe

MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) - Belarusian diplomats do not need a permission from anyone to pay homage to the heroism of Soviet soldiers who liberated Europe and to honor the memory of those tortured in Nazi concentration camps, press secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz told the media in Minsk on 26 April.

Recently, the media reported that Belarus and Russia were not invited to the commemorative events on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp by Soviet troops.

"We do not need invitations or permissions from anyone to pay homage to the heroism of millions of Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the peoples of all European countries, to honor the memory of those tortured in Nazi concentration camps.

This applies not only to Austria but also to all other places. For us, this is a topic of justice, morality and ethics, which, obviously, Western politicians are lacking as they use the topic for intrigues and political games," Anatoly Glaz stressed.

As in previous years, Belarusian diplomats around the world, together with their colleagues from Russia and other countries will hold commemorative events in various formats, lay wreaths at the monuments and obelisks commemorating the terrible war and celebrating the great Victory of our ancestors.

"Dachau, Sachsenhausen, Buchenwald, Mauthausen, Ravensbrück, Auschwitz… We remember every person killed and injured. They gave their lives to protect us, and we will protect the memory of them," Anatoly Glaz said.
